The crusades

The Crusades were military campaigns sanctioned by the Latin Roman Catholic Church during the High Middle Ages and Late Middle Ages.

In 1095, Pope Urban II proclaimed the First Crusade with the stated goal of restoring Christian access to holy places in and near Jerusalem.

There were 8 crusades, the first in 1095 and finish in 1291.





The mediaval castle

A castle of square plan surrounded by a water-filled moat. It has round corner towers and a forbidding appearance.
A castle  is a type of fortified structure built in Europe and the Middle East during the Middle Ages by nobility. But usually consider it to be the private fortified residence of a lord or noble.
Over the approximately 900 years that castles were built, they took on a great many forms with many different features, although some, such as curtain walls and arrowslits, were commonplace.






The Knights
knight  is a person granted an honorary title of knighthood by a monarch or other political leader for service to the Monarch or country, especially in a military capacity.
Knights could only be persons belonging to the nobility, for example Esquairs and gentelmans .

Child became a knight and squire being first had to be a descendant of the royal family.
